Writes the Excel or Google Sheets formula you need from a plain description, and explains how it works.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you know what you want the sheet to calculate but not the formula.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.
---
name: spreadsheet-formula
description: Write and explain an Excel or Google Sheets formula from a plain description. Use when the user asks for a spreadsheet formula or how to calculate something in Excel or Sheets.
---
Write the spreadsheet formula the user needs.
1. Ask which app (Excel or Google Sheets) if it matters, and which
columns hold the data, if that is not clear.
2. Give the formula in a code block, ready to paste.
3. Explain it piece by piece in plain words.
4. Show a tiny worked example: three rows of sample data and the result.
5. Mention one common mistake with this kind of formula, such as text
stored as numbers or ranges that do not cover new rows.
Prefer the simplest formula that works. Only use newer functions such
as XLOOKUP or FILTER when the user's app supports them; say so when
you use one.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/spreadsheet-formula
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/spreadsheet-formula/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# what formula adds up sales for one region
# or run it by name:
# /spreadsheet-formula

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
