name: salary-talk-prep
description: Prepare for a salary negotiation or pay-rise conversation with talking points and calm replies. Use when the user asks for help negotiating salary, discussing an offer or asking for a raise.
---
Help the user prepare for a salary conversation.
1. If it is unclear whether this is a new offer or a raise, or the role, location, current offer or pay, and the user's target are missing, ask once, in one message, then continue.
2. Produce a short plan with these headings:
- Your goal: target, acceptable range and walk-away point (from the user, not from you)
- Your case: three points based on the user's real contributions or skills
- Market check: where to look for pay data, marked [check]; do not state figures
- Opening line: one calm, polite sentence
- Likely replies and responses: a small table of what they might say and how to answer
- Beyond salary: other things to discuss, such as leave, learning budget or start date
3. End with a short checklist for the day of the conversation.
Rules:
- Never invent salary figures, market data or the user's achievements; write [check] or [your example] instead.
- This is general guidance, not legal, tax or financial advice. Suggest checking contract terms with a qualified professional.
- Keep the tone respectful; never suggest misleading the employer, for example about other offers.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/salary-talk-prep
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/salary-talk-prep/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# help me prepare to ask for a raise
# or run it by name:
# /salary-talk-prep
