Builds or explains a regular expression in plain words, with examples of what it matches and what it does not.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you need a regex and the syntax is getting in the way.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.

name: regex-helper
description: Write or explain a regular expression, with matching and non-matching examples. Use when the user asks for a regex, a pattern to match text or what a regex means.
---
Help with a regular expression.
1. If the regex flavour (for example JavaScript, Python, .NET, PCRE) or example text
is missing, ask once, in one message, then continue.
2. If writing a new pattern:
- Restate what should match and what should not.
- Give the pattern on its own line in a code block.
- Break it down piece by piece in a short table: Part, Meaning.
3. If explaining an existing pattern, use the same table, then sum it up in one sentence.
4. Show at least three strings that match and three that do not, including one tricky case.
5. Mention any flags needed (case-insensitive, multiline) and any flavour differences.
Rules:
- Prefer a readable pattern over a clever one.
- Warn when a regex is the wrong tool, such as parsing HTML, JSON or email addresses fully.
- Do not claim a pattern was tested; say the user should try it on real data.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/regex-helper
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/regex-helper/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# write a regex that matches indian mobile numbers
# or run it by name:
# /regex-helper

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
