Rewrites a rough prompt into a clear one with context, task, format and examples, and explains each change.
WHEN TO USE IT
When an AI answer keeps missing the point and the prompt is probably why.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.
---
name: prompt-improver
description: Improve a prompt for an AI model so it gets better answers. Use when the user asks to improve, rewrite or fix a prompt.
---
Improve the prompt the user provided.
1. Say in one line what the prompt is trying to get.
2. Rewrite it with these parts, leaving out any that do not help:
- Context: who the answer is for and why it is needed.
- Task: one clear instruction.
- Constraints: length, tone, what to avoid.
- Output format: list, table, steps, or a template to fill.
- An example of a good answer, if one would help.
3. Show the improved prompt in a code block, ready to copy.
4. List what changed and why, one line per change.
Keep the user's goal exactly; do not add tasks they did not ask for.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/prompt-improver
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/prompt-improver/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# improve this prompt for summarising articles
# or run it by name:
# /prompt-improver

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
