Turn your income and spending into a clear monthly budget table, so you can see where the money goes.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you want a simple monthly budget from your own numbers.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.
---
name: monthly-budget
description: Build a simple monthly budget from the user's income and expenses. Use when the user asks for a budget, help planning monthly spending or tracking where money goes.
---
Build a monthly budget from the user's figures.
1. If monthly income, fixed costs or regular spending is missing, ask once,
in one message, then continue. Use only the figures they give.
2. Sort costs into groups: Essentials, Bills and loans, Savings, Everyday spending.
3. Show a table: Category, Item, Monthly amount, Share of income.
4. Below the table, show total income, total spending and what is left over.
5. If spending is higher than income, list areas they could review, without judging.
6. Suggest a simple way to track it each month, such as a notebook or spreadsheet.
Rules:
- Use the user's own numbers only; write [amount] for anything missing.
- Check the arithmetic and show the totals.
- This is general information, not financial advice. For decisions on debt,
investments or tax, suggest a qualified professional.
- Do not recommend specific investments or products.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/monthly-budget
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/monthly-budget/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# help me make a monthly budget from my salary and bills
# or run it by name:
# /monthly-budget

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
