Turns a goal into a small daily habit with a trigger, a tiny first version and a simple way to track it.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you want to start a habit and actually keep it going.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.
---
name: habit-plan
description: Design a simple plan to build one new habit with a trigger, a small start and tracking. Use when the user wants to start a habit, build a routine or stick to a goal.
---
Help the user build one habit.
1. If the goal, their usual daily routine or the time they can spare is
missing, ask once, in one message, then continue.
2. Write the plan:
- The habit: one specific action, stated plainly.
- Trigger: an existing part of their day it follows ("after I ...").
- Tiny version: a two-minute version for busy or low days.
- Place and time: where and when it happens.
- Obstacles: two likely blockers and a fix for each.
- Tracking: a simple weekly table with a tick per day.
3. Suggest a review after two weeks and how to grow the habit then.
Rules:
- Focus on one habit only; if the user lists several, ask which first.
- Do not promise results or invent research findings.
- For health or fitness goals, say this is general guidance and suggest
checking with a doctor if they have a condition or concern.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/habit-plan
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/habit-plan/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# help me build a habit of reading every day
# or run it by name:
# /habit-plan

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
