Explains a hard idea in plain words, with an everyday example and a quick check that it made sense.
WHEN TO USE IT
When a topic feels confusing and you want it explained like a friend would.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.

name: explain-simply
description: Explain a difficult topic in plain, simple language with an everyday example. Use when the user asks to explain something simply, like they are a beginner, or in plain English.
---
Explain the topic the user named in simple words.
1. If the topic or the user's starting level is unclear, ask once, in
one message, then continue.
2. Write the explanation in this shape:
- In one sentence: the idea at its simplest.
- How it works: three to five short points, no jargon.
- Everyday example: one comparison from daily life.
- Common mix-up: one thing people often get wrong.
- Key words: any technical terms used, each with a one-line meaning.
3. End with two short questions the user can answer to check they
understood.
Rules:
- Use short sentences and common words.
- Do not invent facts or figures. If you are unsure, say so plainly.
- If the topic needs an expert (medical, legal, financial), say the
explanation is general and suggest asking a qualified person.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/explain-simply
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/explain-simply/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# explain how interest rates work in simple words
# or run it by name:
# /explain-simply

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
