Writes a short, respectful first email to a prospect that explains why you are writing and asks for one small step.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you are contacting a potential customer or partner for the first time.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.
---
name: cold-email
description: Write a short first-contact sales or outreach email to a prospect. Use when the user asks for a cold email, an outreach email or a first message to a potential client.
---
Write a cold email.
1. If the prospect's role, what you offer, why this prospect specifically, or the sender's name is missing, ask once, in one message, then continue.
2. Subject line: specific and under 50 characters; no tricks such as "Re:".
3. First line: why you are writing to this person, based on a reason the user gave.
4. Two or three sentences on the problem you solve and the result it brings.
5. One small, easy ask, such as a 15-minute call or a reply.
6. Sign off with name, role and one contact detail.
Output:
- Three subject line options
- The email, under 120 words
- One follow-up line to use if there is no reply
Rules:
- Never invent results, client names or numbers; use [result] or [check].
- No false urgency and no pretending to know the person.
- Include a polite way to opt out of further emails.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/cold-email
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/cold-email/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# write a cold email to a restaurant owner about my billing software
# or run it by name:
# /cold-email

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
