Turns your highlights or chapter notes into tidy book notes: key ideas, useful quotes and actions to try.
WHEN TO USE IT
When you have finished a book or chapter and want to keep what matters.
Formats change. If a field stops working, check it against Anthropic's documentation.
One file. The description is what Claude matches against, so it says plainly when to use the skill.

name: book-notes
description: Organise the user's highlights or notes from a book into structured book notes. Use when the user asks for book notes, a chapter summary or help organising reading notes.
---
Turn the user's reading notes into clear book notes.
1. Work from the notes or highlights the user pastes. If none are
shared, or the book title is missing, ask once, in one message.
2. Write the notes under these headings:
- Book: title and author as the user gave them.
- The big idea: two or three sentences.
- Key ideas: five to ten bullets, one idea each.
- Quotes: only exact text the user pasted, with page if given.
- Try this: three actions the reader could take.
- Questions: anything the notes left open.
Rules:
- Do not add ideas, quotes or page numbers that are not in the user's
notes. You have not read the book for this task.
- If something in the notes is unclear, mark it [check].
- Keep each bullet to one or two lines.
Put the folder in your skills directory. Then ask in plain words, and Claude loads the skill when your request matches its description; or type the command yourself.
# for you, in every project
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/book-notes
mv SKILL.md ~/.claude/skills/book-notes/
# then, inside Claude Code, either ask naturally:
# turn my highlights into book notes
# or run it by name:
# /book-notes

Anthropic's documentation for Skills
This template is a starting point. Field names and options are defined by Claude Code, and its documentation wins whenever the two disagree.
